Behind the song:
This was my total emotional bankruptcy. When I wrote "isn't it strange?", I was completely broken inside. I was desperately looking for any kind of comfort. A lot of the chaotic imagery in this song is just the truth, straight from the heart. From the girl on the tube that I smiled at, to the 9-5 genuinely being the best thing I had, I was destroying myself from the inside out. Sitting in the quiet and crying to myself, for something to take away the pain is something I'll always hold on to.
I wanted the entire song to feel like it was closing in until "it all stops." The heavy, strange irony of human existence was my biggest enemy and not only did I want to release this one, but I felt like I needed to.
isn’t it strange how
one thing could be
the difference between sanity and the therapy you need
isn’t it strange how
you feel relieved when you hear the one you wanted, say it was never meant to be
and you look back on your life and
you call yourself a fool
you cant express emotions ‘cause you’re minds low on fuel
and you can’t work out the reason, you can’t find the words to say, but you whisper under your own breath that ‘it all should be okay’
as the hours go by
in your room, you’re alone, and you’re confused
you’re walking on a tightrope waiting patiently for a feeling you never knew
don’t wait for me
It’s in my head
All in my head
you’ll get some sleep
i’ll lie in bed
and wonder when
it all stops
isn’t it strange how
you walk away
from the things you’re scared of most, you’re the enemy of your own heart it’s broke
you laugh politely at the girl who smiles at you, you’re the king of wishful thinking and you hope you’ll make it though
another day breaks
oh isn’t it strange
how the 9-5 feels better than when you’re on a fucking break
will it ever change? will I be okay?
oh isn’t life strange?
you while away the hours
as the walls around you close and you’re consumed
you’re perched upon a knife edge
as you meet the confidant you thought you’d lose
don’t wait for me
It’s in my head
all in my head
you’ll get some sleep
i’ll lie in bed
and wonder when
it all stops
don’t wait for me
It’s in my head
all in my head
you’ll get some sleep
i’ll lie in bed
and wonder when
it all stops
